Purpose
This article will walk you through how to connect to a Siemens HMI or PLC using TIA and Step7 over Ethernet. You will be able to download our documentation that will go into detail about how to connect to a Siemens device using both Ethernet, USB and Serial.
Note ! For Siemens TIA v15 and above please be sure to use Linkmanager v9.3
See how to upgrade you LinkManager here
Information
TIA
Connecting to your device
Connect to the agent created for your device.
Start TIA.
Go to Online > 'Go online' or 'download to device'.

Click 'load' or 'Go online' to connect to your device.
Ensure that your project is configured with the IP address that the LinkManager is connected to, by selecting the PLC
If matching the LinkManager, you can go Online on the PC.
Tips and tricks
- If 'Go online' or 'download to device' fails
- Go to 'Extended Go online' or 'Extended download to device' instead.
- Make sure that 'Show all compatible devices' is disabled
- Search for your device. (It will only be able to show the IP address of the device.)
- Continue from step 4 in the 'Connecting to your device'
- You can send and receive SMS's via a SiteManager by using TCP commands. We have a project file that can be downloaded and modified to work on other setups available in the download section. The file has been created in TIA 12, where an S7 1200 PLC is set to send TCP commands to a SiteManager. The TCP packet triggers the SiteManager to send an SMS. ATTENTION: This is not a file that we have created, and do not offer support on how to configure or use it. See more here
HMI
- The HMI's that we know which requires 'Support KTP HMI Panel' enabled in the agent are: TP 277-6, KTP1000, KTP1200,
- This feature can be enabled in the 'Parameter Detail' page on the agent.
- Go online will not work with HMI, Use 'Extended Download to device' instead.
- TP700 and TP800 HMI's does not always support PN/IE mode. This may need to be changed to Ethernet, please see section 3.1 of 'Connecting to your device.'
- WinCC is not compatible with earlier versions than Internet Explorer 11. If you use this, then you might need to use 'Compatibility View Settings'.
- If you cannot see the device when clicking Download to device you will need to remove the checkmark in 'show all compatible devices'.
STEP7
Connecting to your device
Connect to the agent created for your device.
Start Step 7.
Click 'Options > Set PG/PC Interface'.
Choose 'Virtual TAP adapter'.
Click OK.
Tia Portal Download V15
NOTE: The LinkManager does not allow STEP 7 to scan for network attached devices. Therefore you will NOT see the PLC under the menu PLC Display Accessible Nodes. Neither will you see any activity on the LinkManager be-fore you access it with a project where the PLC’s specific IP address is con-figured
Open your project.
Go to 'PLC > Establish Connection to Configured CPU'.
In the project select PLC Establish Connection to Configured CPU. /hp-tuners-application-key-generator.html. You should see the green RUN indication at the bottom.
Download Tia Portal 15.1
Please note, that you will only be able to connect to a device with a pre-defined IP address. If your device doesn't have an IP address, you should use our Layer2 solution .
With the Layer2 agent you will now experience that the TIA portal can scan and detect all Siemens devices in the DEV network of the SiteManager:
How to use Layer 2 agent
- Connect to your Layer 2 agent in LinkManager.
- Go to start and type “ncpa.cpl” then hit enter.
- Right click the LinkManager L2 Adapter and click “Properties”
- Click on “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)” and click “Properties”
- Type a free IP address on the remote network in IP address. (This will be your address on the remote network)
- Type in the Subnet mask for the remote network. (Most of the time this will be 255.255.255.0)
- Click “OK” then “Close”
- Now you are ready to connect to your devices.

ArcGIS Enterprise portal licenses—including user types, app bundles, user type extensions, and add-on apps—are managed through a single .json file. You can download this file from My Esri. Use the Portal for ArcGIS website to get the most up-to-date instructions for obtaining a portal license file from My Esri.
Note:
When you import a new license file, any user type, user type extension, or app licenses in your portal are overwritten by the new license file. For example, if you have apps in your portal that are no longer included in your new license file, these apps are removed when the new license file is imported.
Obtain a portal license file from My Esri
Burning crusade client for mac. To obtain a portal license file from My Esri, complete the following steps:
- Sign in to My Esri.
- Select My Organizations > Licensing > License Esri Products.

- Under Select User Type and Application Licenses, you will see the user types, applications, and extensions that are available for your organization. Select the number of licenses for each user type, application, and extension you would like to include in your license file. Click Next.
Note:
Your license file must contain at least one user type license that is compatible with the administrator role.
Note:
Some user types include extensions or application bundles that include multiple applications. For example, the Field Apps bundle is part of the Field Worker user type and includes Survey123, Collector, and Workforce. These applications are included in the application bundle for all of your Field Worker user types. The GIS Professional Standard and GIS Professional Advanced user types include the Parcel Fabric and Utility Network user type extensions. When considering extensions, add-on applications, and add-on application bundles, keep this in mind so you don't duplicate application licenses.
- If you selected to license ArcGIS Pro or ArcGIS Pro extensions, select the number of add-on ArcGIS Pro licenses and ArcGIS Pro extensions. Click Next.
Note:
The GIS Professional user type includes ArcGIS Pro.
- If you selected ArcGIS Pro, Drone2Map, or the GIS Professional user types, enter the information for your license manager. Click Next.
- Enter information about the end user who will use the provisioning file to authorize licenses. Click Next.
- Review the provisioning file information. Once you've verified it is correct, choose the delivery method for your license file and click Create File.
The license file is available to download or send via email on the next page.
You import the .json license file into your portal to license your portal's users and apps. During the initial configuration, you will import the license when creating your portal. If you are updating the license for an existing portal, you can import the license file. Importing a license file will overwrite your existing user type, extension, app, and app bundle licenses with those included in the new license file.
