Is there any way of finding out the shutter count on a 40D ? Haven't read through the manual completely but my cursory read through didnt give me any answers

There is no way for a user to read the actual shutter count of a 40D.
Canon Can
If you always use one CF card and you have continuous numbering set then it should be accurate.

not accurately, unless you count your file numbers and dont reset them

Ah I see. That is interesting becos I thought on a DSLR you should be able to get a shutter count quite easily as I read somewhere that you should get it serviced after a particular shutter count
Anyways the reason is that my 40D is not technically BRAND NEW - I bought it off someone else who said that it was hardly used (and the condition seems to suggest so) but just wanted to check if there was a way to prove this.
So the suggestion about the image numbers doesnt apply for my purpose - but thanks Red Dot and Evan

It worked for me.
The instructions:
Download
Unzip
Copy the exe (40d shutter count) file to the EOS Utility Folder
Run the exe from there
connect the camera, power it on, Close the EOS Utility if it turns on
press the shutter count button

Gmod prop hunt download non steam. Moody_blue and Nobodyspecial, what version of firmware are you running? I've got 1.0.8 and it's not working on either of my machines. Any tricks to get it working?

When I upload an image to Flickr it had an item labeled Shutter Count that it extracted from the Exif data

This definitely does not match the image #. You can see the original photo that this came from with image # 685 in my Flickr account and the photo name is at the bottom of this picture.
The person who sold me the camera guessed the shutter had ~15K actuations. If this is a true counter, then he was about 3K off! I reset the counter when I got the camera so I got about 700 shots.

I just looked at the Exif data and this number is in Tag 93, position 2 in 20D exif data, looking at it with Opanda software.

I couldn't say whether Flickr knows what it's doing.
